Losing weight while you are stressed may be harder. Ironically, you may have to eat even less than a unstressed person to loose the same weight. Is it just calories in calories out? Well, it depends on your metabolism. Here’s a particular client’s situation that will explain what I mean. She gave me permission to describe to you her struggle and how we approached it work toward success. This woman…
by Carl Parnham RMT As I grow older (yes, I am only 25, but I feel like I’m getting older), I feel the stresses of life starting to take over. I’m working, and paying off my student loan, and my schedule is becoming filled with more resposiblities (my clients tell me it only gets worse when you take on more with family and as the career evolves). I notice now…
“It was the last straw!” Have you ever used this saying? It is an ancient Arabic proverb dating back to a time when we used camels, or a similar animal like a horse or ox, for carrying our heavy loads.
The dictionary defines it as the very last thing one experiences in a long series of mishaps or disappointments that tips the balance to a final loss of patience, temper, trust, or hope. It is an apt metaphor I like to apply regarding our health, when a health problem emerges suddenly, or a sports injury occurs without any particular accident or trauma. Indeed, a cataclysmic failure of health can occur without clear warning. Oddly, the last correlated and reasonable cause – “last straw” – often seems relatively not potent enough to cause the problem on its own. Think of a woman who gets breast cancer after a stressful period in life; the stress is not enough to “cause” this is it? Or a guy gets back into soccer and his knee ligament gives out on a simple fall; it is not just that he is 40 and out of shape now? A 46 year old woman becomes clinically depressed after missing a promotion at work; she cannot blame menopause on her hypersensitivity, can she?
by Jennifer Kotowicz HHP, RAc – Facial acupuncture, rejuvenation and weight loss. We all know that the sense of smell evokes strong memories and emotions. Sometimes this can be an overpowering experience. Olfaction is a complex experience. My husband as a chef is particularly aware of this, and he really relies upon his sense of smell. He smells and tastes the ingredients of his creations, from start to finish, as…
by Carl Parnham RMT As explained in another blog written this week by Dr. Alina Tousseeva of our ATP team, Carpel Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is located primarily in your wrist at the carpel tunnel. This restricted bony/fibrous tunnel wraps around and contains the many tendons that control movement in the wrist and fingers. It also protects the nerves and blood vessels that supply your hand with blood, sensation and use…
by Gord Grant PhD, RAc For thousands of years, acupuncture has been claimed to unblock Qi (“chi”). Qi is described as a universal energy flowing through meridian pathways up and down the limbs and interconnecting the internal organs. The original concepts of Qi or Yin and Yang powerfully and poetically describe the nature and ecology of the body and mind. In modern times, even though science can quantify energy in…
by Carl Parnham RMT Frozen Shoulder is a condition where you lose range of motion (ROM) in the shoulder due to pain and tightening of the joint capsule. ROM is most commonly lost in abduction (raising your arm out to the side) and external rotation (arm at your side, elbow bent to 90 degrees and rotating out ward). Dr. E. Codman used the term “Frozen Shoulder” in 1934 calling it…
by Jennifer Kotowicz HHP, RAc – Facial acupuncture, rejuvenation and weight loss. My specialty is facial rejuvenation at The Acupuncture Turning Point health clinic. I have always been reticent to do the stereotypical “before and after” pictures for many reasons – but I am reconsidering it. I ask myself, is my reluctance because my treatments do not produce dramatic enough results!? I calm first impulse knowing that the huge marketing…
by Gord Grant PhD, RAc Acupuncture or counselling, provided alongside usual care, can benefit patients with depression, according to a large, well-designed study. Unfortunately, antidepressants alone don’t work for more than half of patients. There is a demand and a need for non-drug solutions for mental health issues like depression. “Until recently”, says Dr. Hugh MacPherson and his research team, “systematic reviews of acupuncture and counselling for depression in primary care have…
by Carl Parnham RMT I am not a pillow expert, but I deal with people’s proverbial “pain-the-neck” every day. So, I did some research into pillows and here is what I found. I came across this scientific study published in a physiotherapy journal (Physiotherapy Canada, Volume 63, Number 2, Pages 183-190). Here they let people use their own pillow as well as other types. The participants (106 of them!) were…
What a beautiful space! Tea and books as you wait among the beautiful greenery.Gord is deeply insightful and is an expert at what he does. He always knows exactly what to do and say to help make one feel heard and understood. Super grateful to have stumbled upon this place and can definitely say that meeting Gord was indeed a turning point in my life
I’ve been going to Gord for acupuncture treatments for the past 4 years, and he’s been so consistently great at what he does. He’s always so warm, welcoming, knowledgeable, and there’s no doubt that you’ll leave ATP relaxed and better than when you came in. Him and the environment are just good vibes - highly recommend.
Love his approach on treating issues. Highly recommend. Clinic is set up nice. Waiting room is full of plants and books while you wait. Clean washroom and tea avaliable while you wait.
Gord really helped my sciatic issues. I found him to be very knowledgeable and so easy to talk to.. His Cupping and acupuncture techniques relieved my pain and I’d highly recommend Gord.
Gord, at Acupuncture Turning Point, creates a warm, relaxing and inviting atmosphere at the clinic. His philosophy about health and wellness and life comes from a place of whole body/mind awareness - covering mind, body, emotions and spirit this is a refreshing change from western healthcare beliefs.Gord has provided me relief from pain and the release of tension to allow healing to begin/continue, with both needling, cupping and taping. I always feel comfortable, safe and at ease when in Gord's care. And I always feel a sense of release and renewed strength after treatments.
This was my first ever experience with acupuncture and cupping therapy and Dr. Grant made me feel especially welcome and I immediately felt a certain comfort & relaxation after first talking with him.He is extremely thorough & really takes the time to understand your situation and shows a lot of compassion for what it is you’re going through. He provided excellent conversation throughout and gave helpful, knowledgeable tips & remedies to try on my own as well.I immediately felt a release of tension throughout my entire body after my session was complete, so much that it even brought me to tears(happy tears not sad lol)The office space is also very serene using water fountains and plant life to really help in calming your mind and energy upon arrival. Highly recommend!!! I’d give a 6 star rating if I could! And to top it all off, I even left with a very thoughtful gift! A beautiful jade plant for myself and my gf. Come on… how can you beat that!?
I finally decided to give acupuncture a try to help with my severe neck pain that had been keeping me up at night. After just one session, most of the pain had disappeared, although I was still a bit sore, which I assume is normal. Two months of pain seemed to vanish, and today, my shoulders and neck feel incredibly light for the first time in what feels like forever. I can't even recall the last time I felt this amazing! I'm so grateful to Gordon for his help, and I will recommend him to everyone I know. 😊
Wow. Came here today for my first session to assist with some mental health issues and pain symptoms I am experiencing. Being new to eastern medicine, my doctor pushed me into going and said there's many benefits to doing acupuncture. I took the plunge at the very last second and called Gord. I'm glad I did. He took me in at the last minute and was patient while I navigated some traffic issues and was a little late for my appointment.Gord has one, if not, the most professionally calming demeanour I have ever witnessed. I instantly felt calm and comfortable in his presence. Not only is this gentleman an excellent acupuncturist - he gave me some really solid advice and words that is now engrained in my head. I was literally saying to myself, "Is he trained in therapy and just not tell anyone about it?" Gord has excellent intuition. What a great conversation. The icing on the cake was when he graciously offered me (of course I forget the name of the plant) a beautiful plant that he has been growing in his surprising, have never seen it in a business before, greenhouse, that was gifted to him from a family member many years ago. I'll be taking good care of it and am looking forward to watching it grow, just as I am now doing.Gord, I appreciate everything you said to me and I have wrote down several things you said. Can't recommend this place enough. I'll be there for sure next week and I'll be recommending this place to everyone I know. Thanks again.
This was my first experience with acupuncture and Gordon was very nice and personable. We shared some great conversation and I left feeling rejuvenated not only physically but mentally as well. It was the wholesome experience I didn't fully know I needed. I was also gifted a beautiful succulent plant to bring home 🙃 I definitely recommend Gordon for any of your future treatments!
Always have a good experience when i go and see Gord. Very Knowledgeable, he takes you through what he is doing and how this will help. I just came in with a knee injury and left feeling better then i have in weeks. Cant go wrong going and seeing Gord.Went again for hip injury. Getting old sucks. Again, such a great experience. Felt better as soon as the session was done and I expect to be fully healed in a couple of days.
This was my first experience with acupuncture. I did not know what to inspect. I felt at ease from the time I walked in to the completing my session. I felt great after my session. Gord is incredibly knowledgeable and skilled. I would definitely recommend Gord to my family and friends.
Gordon was intuitive and attentive. He addressed my concerns and tried a variety of treatments for my issues. The office is warm and inviting. He's a wealth of knowledge.
Gord is absolutely amazing !!He has treated me on several occasions, for different problems. Each and every time, I leave his office, I feel better immediately. For myself, there is always a marked improvement with each treatment. Please, do not hesitate, if you are considering seeing an acupuncturist, do yourself a favour, and see the best.Gord, at “The Acupuncturist Turning Point” is in my opinion, one of the very best you will ever find !!
After trying my usual go tos ~ Physio and chiro for aches and pains, I decided to try acupuncture for a complicated ankle injury. Chiro and Physio weren’t able to help with this issue at all. After one session it was clear that acupuncture was the answer. I have felt significant relief with Dr. Grant’s work and am very grateful that I tried it. I would highly recommend.
Really calm and relaxing space. Gord was really great at communicating his process and attentive to checking in. I felt like he understood my concerns right away and knew exactly how to treat them. Would highly recommend!
Gord has a great understanding of the human body, his knowledge of TCM to accurately apply his needle at the right spot is excellent. Take the time to listen to him and share his knowledge, sometimes the message is more important than the treatment :).
Acupuncturist Gord is excellent. He listens to your concerns; provides excellent options and is very diligent in his treatment. Very friendly and explains what he is doing as he is applying his craft. Highly recommended.
I went there today for the first time to get Accupuncture for my knee with Gord. I had a wonderful experience from the moment I entered the receptionist is really kind and Gord worked on my knee and listened to everything I said. I will definitely go back I didn't feel rushed and my knee felt better I will definitely be back.
It sounds like Gordon is not only a skilled acupuncturist but also has a talent for storytelling, which adds an extra dimension to his practice. His ability to address areas of concern and alleviate pain effectively makes him quite impressive!
This place is amazing. I randomly found it on Google as I was looking for a new place to get my acupuncture done so I thought I’d check it out. Gord not only cares about his clients recovery but he also wants us to be well knowledgeable about how our bodies work and the benefits of acupunture. I would recommend this place to everyone.Ps. He has a beautiful living wall in the waiting room for patients to enjoy!
Gord does amazing work. I go in for many reasons. This visit was for my elbows aching very badly. I have absolutely no aching today! We works wonders!!
1st visit here, and with acupuncture in general, and I left extremely happy.Gord was extremely knowledgeable, utilized multiple different relief techniques for my back pain (cupping, acupuncture, and electro-puncture, athletic tape), provided me with additional materials to attempt toitigate pain moving forward on my own, and only recommend a follow up if I thought I needed it.I'd recommend him and his practice to anyone, and if I need additional treatment, I will gladly be returning.
Dr. Gord is such a kind soul and his treatments have been so helpful with my anxiety, chronic pain and overall wellbeing. His honey is also delicious and the clinic has such a calming atmosphere! Thank you
Gord is an incredibly knowledgeable and kind practitioner that I’ve been seeing for acupuncture for 10+ years. I always leave my session feeling better and inspired by our conversation. Acupuncture treatments from the Turning Point has benefitted my overall health and has improved some physical discomfort in my muscles.
Very very pleased with my first time experience with Gord. I went in for acupuncture therapy but it was WAY more than that. He truly is in it to genuinely help people, whether it be one thing or another, he is all in. Really takes the time to get to know you and dig deep into how to REALLY help you. Not just a quick fix and out the door. I felt heard and really connected throughout my entire session. Gord is a very educated, compassionate and knowledgeable man.
Gordon is amazing. He is extremely knowledgeable and thorough. I can tell he loves what he does and is extremely passionate about helping people. He took the time to get to know me and treated me as a whole. I went in with two concerns I wanted help with but he ended up helping me with many others. I left feeling so supported and inspired. I highly recommend seeing him!
Got Gordon. Grant is one outstanding person as well as acupuncturist. He has nothing but compassion for all his clients. I would recommend him to anyone.
As always, Gord hooks it up!! My leg and hip feels amazing already!! I also got some take home stretches and exercises to keep my sciatica in check. GORD... you are truly amazing!! Thank you again!!! 😊
